To celebrate President’s Day, the Government Affairs Industry Network (GAIN) gathered at Hill Country BBQ for their signature Third Thursday networking Happy Hour. This month’s event invited attendees to mingle and network in order to fill their POTUS Bingo card – an activity aimed at encouraging networking outside of the box. This successful event was the perfect occasion for industry professionals to connect over policy, while growing a network with professionals from all stages of career and sectors within the Government Affairs industry. GAINing Momentum: First Event of 2017 a Smash Success

Government Affairs Industry Network (GAIN) was proud to host “How Congress Communicates” an insightful workshop presented by Echelon Insights Co-Founder, Patrick Ruffini. Mr. Ruffini gave an overview of Echelon’s research about how to effectively engage elected officials on social media. The study utilized a variety of research, including interviews with House Communications staffers to get their opinion on best practices regarding social media use and engagement. The key finding of the report for best practice in social media engagement was to “be authentic.” GAIN would like to thank LEVICK for providing the venue and the lunch!

GAIN Raises Money for Charity at November’s Third Thursday Networking Happy Hour!

Government affairs industry professionals gathered for GAIN’s monthly Third Thursday Networking event at Eighteenth Street Lounge in support of GAIN’s first charity fundraiser, on November 17th just before the Thanksgiving holiday. All funds raised through raffle ticket sales were donated to Bread for the City’s “Holiday Helpings” campaign. Raffle prizes included Redskins tickets with club level access, Washington Capitals tickets with club level access, and Brunch for Four at China Chilcano. GAIN would like to thank Jennifer Hinkle, Centurion Group DC, and Jesse Baker, Jose Andres, Rob Wilder & Think Food Group for their support and generous contributions to the raffle. Life After the Election

With the 2016 election over, the upcoming months will be a time of major transition for professionals in the government affairs industry. GAIN’s “Life After the Election: Picking Up the Pieces” panel on November 15 featured prominent and experienced government affairs professionals who have had experiences transitioning through public and private sector careers. Guided by moderator John Chamberlain, our panelists answered questions regarding the process of transition with the incoming administration and the ramifications of the election on the lobbying world. Additionally, panelists focused on the importance of building and maintaining relationships and the process of finding a new job.

September’s Third Thursday Networking Reception Kicks Off a Busy Fall!

As DC emerged from the annual August exodus and everyone returned to the daily grind, GAIN’s September “Third Thursday” Networking Reception was the hottest event in town on September 15th! Co-hosted with the Grassroots Professional Network (GPN) and Innovate To Motivate (I2M), government affairs industry professionals gathered on the beautiful rooftop of 900 G Street, forging new professional relationships and sharing industry insights and predictions for the coming months.
